The Dye Course

Designed by Pete Dye

Barefoot’s only semi private course and its stiffest test. Pete Dye’s layout borders the white sands of the Carolina Bays with every Dye trademark: bold visuals, demanding water, railroad ties and risk and reward on nearly every hole.

Signature holes

Where the Dye Course makes its name

  1. A fairway with several sand bunkers lined by tall trees
    6

    The signature par 3

    Par 3 · 195 yards · Handicap 8

The one shot hole the club calls its signature par 3, 195 yards from the back and framed by the sand and bulkheads that mark a Dye design. The safe side of the green is worth finding.

  2. A lakeside green on a Barefoot Resort course
    7

    The hardest par 4

    Par 4 · 475 yards · Handicap 2

The number two handicap hole and 475 yards from the tips. A long drive is only the start; the approach plays to a well guarded green.

  3. Golfers hitting balls on the practice range at Barefoot Resort
    11

    The number one handicap

    Par 4 · 461 yards · Handicap 1

A 461 yard par 4 that bends through the waste areas and asks for the best two shots of the round. Bogey is no disgrace.

  4. A golfer beside a pond on a Barefoot Resort course
    18

    A Cape style finish

    Par 4 · 471 yards · Handicap 5

Dye’s closing par 4 wraps around the lake in front of the clubhouse, so the more of the water you bite off, the shorter the approach. It is the hole the gallery lines at Monday After the Masters.

The design

What Pete Dye built here

Pete Dye said he set out at Barefoot to build something that would linger in a golfer’s mind forever, and the Dye Course is the result. It is the longest and hardest of the four, carrying a slope of 149 from the back markers, and it is filled with the pitfalls for a wayward shot that made Dye the most influential architect of his era: pot bunkers, railroad tie bulkheads, sprawling waste areas and water in the line of the aggressive play.

  • The toughest test at BarefootA course rating of 75.6 and a slope of 149 from the Platinum tees, the highest numbers on the property. Pick your tees honestly.
  • Dye trademarks everywhereRailroad ties, pot bunkers, deep grass faced mounds and long sandy waste areas, with water set exactly where the bold line wants to go.
  • The Carolina BaysThe layout borders the natural white sand of the Carolina Bays, which Dye used for the broad waste areas that frame so many holes.
